The Living History Heritage Project is a unique collaborative project that features trained actors impersonating the unsung heroes of American Black history; people both free and enslaved who came to the United States from Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries and left behind written accounts of their lives. Characters from this history include scholar and former slave Omar Ibn Sayyid; early landowner and businessman Yero Mahmoud; teacher and Civil War soldier Muhammad Ali ibn Sayyid and others.
